Roam (with kids!)
When Renata from Roam (with kids!) approached Mauka Creative, she had a clear vision in mind: a brand that was not only playful and fun but also resonated with families searching for child-friendly spots. Her new app aimed to be the go-to resource for families looking to explore and enjoy activities together, and the brand needed to reflect that mission across every touchpoint.
The Challenge
Renata’s primary goal was to create a brand identity that could seamlessly translate across both digital and print. With an app at the core of Roam, the brand also needed to have a strong social media presence and be instantly recognisable to its users. This required a cohesive design that worked just as well on a mobile screen as it did on printed materials like flyers and signage.
The Creative Process
Drawing inspiration from a bold 90s design aesthetic, I set out to craft a brand identity that would capture the playful essence Renata exudes. The logo became the focal point, with the "R" ingeniously inspired by a slide—symbolising the fun and adventure families would find using the Roam app. The logotype itself was hand-drawn to give it a unique and personal touch, setting the tone for the entire brand.
The branding didn’t stop at the logo. I developed a brand pattern and illustrations that were applied consistently across all digital and printed touchpoints. Whether users were interacting with the app, receiving a thank you card, or scrolling socials, they were met with the same vibrant and playful identity. The UI design played a crucial role here, ensuring that the branding was consistent throughout the app, enhancing user experience, and boosting brand recognition that had been carefully built up on social media.
The Outcome
The result? A brand that not only met but exceeded Renata’s expectations. The playful and fun vibe she envisioned came to life in a way that was both engaging and memorable. Since the launch, Renata has received countless positive comments on the branding, and I’ve been fortunate enough to receive several referrals from this project—a true testament to the power of a well-executed brand identity.
Being the design lead on this project allowed me to fully immerse myself in Renata’s vision, and it was incredibly rewarding to see how the brand has resonated with its audience. Roam (with kids!) is now well-equipped to help families discover the best child-friendly spots with a brand that’s as fun as the adventures it promotes.
